Bhawan Sekhon is a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist who is trained to complete internal examinations and uses a whole body approach. She has her Master of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Carleton University, and has completed independent studies into the gut-brain axis to further understand the link between the gut, the nervous system and pelvic health. Currently, Bhawan is completing her certification in Sexual Health Education from the University of Alberta and holds an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at McMaster University. Bhawan’s goal is to provide holistic physiotherapy care that is research informed to all of her patients.
Bhawan also is a strong believer in preventive and proactive care to ensure patients are well equipped to manage their symptoms as effectively as possible. She treats all genders for pelvic floor dysfunctions/symptoms, surgery preparation and rehabilitation, birth preparation and rehabilitation, and pelvic organ prolapse to name a few.
Bhawan is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) and the Ontario Physiotherapy Association (OPA), particularly the Women’s Health Division. She looks forward to meeting with you and supporting you in your healthcare!
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy focuses on prevention or improving symptoms or dysfunctions related to the pelvic floor which can be related to urination, bowel movements, sexual health, birth/labour, and lifting/exercising. Pelvic Health Physiotherapists receive additional training to perform internal vaginal and rectal exams if this is beneficial to your care and if you are comfortable.
